This class is a requirement for the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International^® Associate and Practitioner training programs.

A thorough review of Phase 4 concepts and applications from basic to advanced.

This foundational Ortho-Bionomy® class focuses on the extremities—the appendicular skeletal system, including the joints of the shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, hips, legs, ankles, and feet.

Students are introduced to the history, philosophy, and core concepts of Ortho-Bionomy, along with an overview of anatomy and basic release techniques specific to the major joints of the limbs. Through guided exploration, participants learn how gentle movements and positions of comfort can support the release of muscular tension and accumulated stress.

By working with the extremities, this course emphasizes how engaging the body’s inherent self-corrective reflexes can restore ease, improve joint mobility, and encourage structural alignment and balance from within. Special attention is given to developing sensitivity in touch, observation skills, and an understanding of how the limbs influence overall posture and movement patterns.

As part of a modular approach to learning, this course focuses specifically on the extremities to allow for a more in-depth and accessible study of this region of the body.

The Releases for the Cervical Spine 4 hour class will include hands on techniques for the Upper, Middle, and Lower Neck.

Included in the class tuition is access to a pre-requisite online video with necessary information about Ortho-Bionomy, so that we can spend more class time doing hands on work.

If you have recently taken an Ortho-Bionomy class this requirement may be waived, please ask for more details.

This class expands from the basic release techniques to advanced considerations for working with the pelvis and organs, and finding more challenging positions of comfort to facilitate the release of muscular tension and overall stress by stimulating the inherent, self-corrective reflexes of the body which help the body create structural alignment and balance from within.

This Ortho-Bionomy class combines sensitivity training with subtle physical releases. The student learns to follow the client’s self-corrective reflexes. These releases are excellent for people experiencing deep pain, including highly sensitive people who can not tolerate more vigorous work. This work bridges the body-mind connection and can be easily integrated into any bodywork session.

Ortho-Bionomy Subtle Physical and Unwinding Techniques can offer the practitioner specific tools:

• To allow a further unwinding of a pattern
• To help clients find further clarity in their nervous system about their tension
• To find a fuller embodiment experience for the client

Specific areas of focus in the class will include:

• Neck
• Shoulders
• Ear Balance
• Elbow
• Ribs
• Lumbar Region
• Sacrum

We are more than our muscles and bones. We are our energy, emotions, and all the experiences that have led us to this moment. How would it feel to have your clients connect with all of who they are? This Ortho-Bionomy class provides you with the awareness that all around our bones, muscles, and organs there is energy. When we make contact with this energy, we allow the body to be deeply recognized, to self-correct, and to respond in a more integrated manner. You will learn specific touch and energetic skills that can take any healing modality that you use to a deeper and more profound level. This class can significantly increase your sensitivity, which can enhance your ability to connect and work with your clients on both physical and energetic levels.

IN THIS CLASS YOU WILL:

• Feel the energy around a client

~ This can help you determine where the first area to work might be

~ Which areas are inviting you in? Which areas are not ready to be worked with yet?

~ This can help you evaluate how fast or slow your approach needs to be

• Experience how working gently and subtly can be very powerful and effective
• Fine-tune the energy of your own body in order to release your client's tensions.

~ As you the practitioner become more able to align your energy with the client, this can allow them to feel safe more deeply and quickly

Posture and Post Techniques class teaches you techniques that can be used for assessment, release, and integration of Ortho-Bionomy work. Post Techniques are designed to directly relate to the Ortho-Bionomy Phase 4 spine work.

Using these techniques can help your Ortho-Bionomy work settle in the body better as well as help you and the body recognize what is still “stuck”. There are aspects of the class that are also great to send home as “self help” to continue to body’s work at releasing long held patterns and making changes toward more functionality.

Participants learn to evaluate and address inefficient postural habits through focused observation and simple exercises. This includes working with gait, scoliosis, and the natural curves of the spine.

In this class, participants learn to evaluate and address inefficient postural habits through accurate observation and simple exercises.

Techniques to work with spinal curvatures and scoliosis are presented and practiced. Post techniques focus on assessing and releasing areas of tension as well as integrating the work done in a session.

In addition, exercises are taught to facilitate the client's ability to maintain balance through the neuro-muscular re-education of postural habits.

This class presents isometric and isotonic techniques, including related anatomy, for working with inefficient muscular tension patterns as well as underdeveloped muscle tone.

Through the use of restraining movement while the muscle is engaged, self-correcting reflexes are stimulated and habitual holding patterns can be released.

Participants learn how the conscious use of obstacles can help promote change from rigid physical patterns to greater mobility while allowing the client to actively participate in the session.

Using the Ortho-Bionomy principles, Isometric and Isotonic techniques can add an element of strengthening within your therapeutic sessions through the additional tool of active movement. This additional approach can be invaluable for releasing “hard-to-reach” restrictions, without creating pain. Through the use of reciprocal inhibition, the muscle can be engaged, self-correcting reflexes can be stimulated, and habitual holding patterns can be released. These techniques can encourage clients to actively participate in their session and can easily become homework for self-care. Learn a fast and effective tool for your practice that is gentle for your clients and easy on your body.

There are no prerequisites for this class, and we will cover the essentials of the Phase 4 positional release procedure.

This class presents the Chapman's Reflexes system of identifying and stimulating reflex points to facilitate lymphatic drainage and the balancing of the organs.

The class also focuses on the relationship between the neuro-lymphatic reflexes and the endocrine system and its effect on structural balance as well as the individual's physical and emotional well-being.

1920 Frank Chapman, DO discovered a Reflex link between Endocrine Glands, the Viscera & Lymphatics.  “An Endocrine Interpretation of Chapman’s Reflexes”, was written by Charles Owens, DO (Chapman’s brother-in law) in 1937.

In this book, he proposes that the stimulation of the Chapman’s Reflexes contributes to lymphatic drainage, balances the Autonomic Nervous System, and is beneficial to the Reflex’s target Organs and Glands. He suggests certain protocols for working with these Reflexes and describes the key role the Endocrine system plays when considering a more systemic approach to their use.

We will first learn the rational behind the use of Chapman’s Reflexes. We will then learn the Anterior Points followed by the Posterior Points. We will finish by learning about treating using related Groups of Chapman’s Points.

September 28, October 5, 12, 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16 (Tuesdays)

10am-2:30pm Pacific, 11am-3:30pm Mountain, 12pm-4:30pm Central, 1pm-5:30pm Eastern

This class uses anatomy images, movement, and hands-on palpation to explore anatomical language and experience all the major bones and muscles of the human body in a way that is immediately and practically useful for bodywork practitioners.

I absolutely love studying the anatomy of the human body and can’t wait to share my passion for this with you!

Rather than rote memorization, emphasis will be placed on feeling the anatomy of our own body and our palpation partner, and on being comfortable with how to look up anatomical information in reference materials as needed.

This anatomy course is perfect for students starting out in their bodywork training, for laypeople who want to know more about the anatomy of the human body as they work with friends and family, or for students at any level who would like to review and renew their anatomy knowledge.

This 32-hour online course will be presented in eight 4 hour “bite-sized” classes, with a half hour break about halfway through the day. For more thorough kinesthetic understanding of the material presented, you will need a palpation partner most days of class.*

You will have the opportunity to spend some time outside class coloring images and doing other explorations that facilitate your learning process. The 2-3 week interval between each class will allow time for you to practice anatomical palpation with friends and family and for the information to integrate into your system between classes.

If you have any questions about the contents of this course or wish to discuss the requirements and how they relate to your specific situation, please text 415.595.0328 so we can set up a time to talk further about how this course can meet your needs.

This course fulfills SOBI’s 32-hour anatomy requirement for the Practitioner Training Program.
